Attention - How To Focus Your Attention

Attention is often scattered in today's society. With so many external influences it is difficult for many people to remained focused and centered.

The main reason why it is difficult to remain focused is because there are so many external influences that are wanting our attention. For example, if you turn on the TV then you are bombarded with advertisements, the latest fads, celebrity gossip and horrific news from around the world.

Likewise if you go into a shopping center. There is the background music, hundreds of shops with advertisements and special offers, other shoppers to 'people watch' on and a lot of background noise.

Attention - focus your awareness within

No wonder there are a lot of people who find it difficult to focus their attention and awareness with so much going on.

However it is not the individual's fault that they get so distracted. Society has created a momentum and people are naturally going with the flow of the momentum.

So naturally they are getting distracted with the latest fads and becoming obsessed with the latest fashions and gossip that is prevalent within society.

However there is another way for you to re-focus your attention so that it serves you.

Attention - allow your focus to go within

With every individual there is only so much attention they have to give. If you think of your attention like a full circle, then that is how much attention you have. That is 100% of your attention.

So if you are turning on a tap in the kitchen then some of your attention will go to turning on the tap, say 25%. That means you have only say 75% of your attention to give to other things at that moment in time, such as a conversation you are being a part of or perhaps thinking about planning your day.

So if you have a lot of things going on in your life then your attention will be going outwards to a lot of different situations simultaneously. When this happens people start to feel scattered. It is different for different people because some people have been brought up to handle a number of situations at the same time. This is where multi-tasking comes into play.

However, when you have a lot of different things going on at the same time, then your attention and awareness is divided between those different tasks. Likewise if there are a lot of distractions such as being in a shopping center or watching the television. Your awareness will be split outwards towards many different things at the same time. No wonder people often feel a sense of being scattered in the external world because of all the distractions.

So with all of the distractions in daily life how do we again find our focus?

Well probably the most important point is to go inwards to your heart center. Your heart center is located within the middle of your breast bone. It is about the size of a golf ball.

To do this, simply find a quiet place where you can be by yourself and place your attention and awareness on the feeling within the middle of your chest. Personally I find it helps to place my fingers on my heart center in order to feel it more.

The heart center is where your guidance system originates from in the physical form. There are other guidance systems such as 'source' which is a force that guides all things, however in the felt physical form your main guidance system is your heart center.

If you place your awareness on your heart center you will probably feel a slight tug. This will probably feel similar to the pull of a spider web against your heart center. It is a subtle pull within your heart center.

This pull is the force that guides you through life.

So if you instead place your attention and awareness on the pull of your heart center then you will instead start living a life from the inside out. Instead of being distracted by all of the external influences then you will instead be guided from your internal guidance system.

What that means is that instead of jumping from one thing to the next you will instead be aligning with your heart center and taking actions from there. When you start taking actions from your heart center you will naturally start to find that there is only one path that your heart wants you to take. Then all other paths will naturally drop away.

For example, when I started listening to my heart center then I naturally started being lead into the bush. This lead me further into having a number of spiritual experiences of being connected to a force beyond the physical realm that I like to call 'source'.

Now when I listen to and get guided by my heart center all I am being lead to do is to 'connect people with source in nature'. This is all my heart center want me to do and this is where my attention has naturally gravitated to.

You can probably see that when you place your attention and awareness on your heart center then you will become more 'centered'. So rather than being distracted by the external influences, they naturally drop away and you will instead be living your life from the inside out.

Not only does this allow you the ability to focus your attention on the things that are important to you but it also brings about a greater sense of well being.
