How To Raise Your Spiritual Awareness
Awareness
is how much consciousness you are experiencing in any given moment. It
is possible to significantly raise your consciousness by doing a few
simple exercises.
The main reason why people's consciousness is
lower
than it could be is because their attention is mainly placed on what is
going through their mind. Each of us has a brain that thinks and that
is normal.
However, when we are thinking we are placing as much energy on our
thoughts as we do when we are walking. This energy we place on our
thoughts naturally takes us away from the expanded sense of
consciousness that is always waiting for us to tap into.

- raise your spiritual consciousness |
Now there
is only so much awareness that each human being has. It is sort of like
a full circle on a pie chart.
For
example, if a circle represents 100% of your consciousness then when
you are actively engaged in 'thinking' then you
may only have say 25% of your attention available to what you are
smelling, feeling, tasting, hearing or seeing both within you and
around you.
It
is this almost obsession with 'thinking' that takes away a lot of our
awareness that can be directed elsewhere, especially onto the spiritual
realm.
So how do
we regain and expand our awareness?
 |
| Awareness
- expand your senses to become more aware |
The
first place to start is to become aware of the thoughts going through
your mind. Often we believe it is these thoughts that are the 'real'
us. However once you start to become aware of what goes through your
mind, you will start to see that a lot of the chatter within your mind
is almost on autopilot.
For
example, you will probably start to see that a lot of the thoughts
going through your mind repeat themselves. Something happens and almost
on autopilot you will have a thought form that has repeated itself in
the past again and again.
Now
there is nothing wrong with this because that is just what the mind
does. The problem however is the amount of attention and awareness that
we give up to what happens within our mind. That is because it takes
away a lot of our consciousness that can be focused on more beneficial
stimuli.
So
in order to shift your attention, it is best to silence your mind. This
is what the Buddhists call 'no-mind'.
In
order to get into a state of no-mind, simply start to become of the
constant voice within your mind. Right now it may be saying 'Little
voice? What little voice? I don't have a little voice!'
Well,
that is the little voice.
You
will probably get to see that the little voice within your mind has a
certain speed and a certain tempo. Start to become aware of that speed
and tempo. You will proably also get to see that the voice within your
mind also has a certain tone and pitch that it speaks at. Again, start
to become aware of the tone and pitch that the voice within your mind
speaks at.
Then
when you are conscious of the voice within your mind, simply say to it
'Thank you for sharing'.
As
you say this, you will probably notice that there is a small gap in
your thoughts. You will probably notice there is a pause in your
thinking. This is what the Buddhists call no-mind.
When
you continue to practice, you will probably be able to expand the
amount of time you are in this state of no-mind by focusing on the
space of no-mind instead of your thoughts.
The
great thing about being in a state of no-mind is that it allows you the
space to expand your awareness outwards. For example, within no-mind
you can instead start to become aware of what you are smelling in each
moment. Plus you can also start to become aware of what you are
feeling, tasting, hearing and seeing.
By
expanding and heightening your five predominant senses you are then
able to expand your attention and awareness within the given moment.
Getting out of your mind and into your senses opens the doorway into
the spiritual world beyond the one we normally know. This actively
raises your consciousness.
When
you are in this expanded sense of consciousness you will often feel the
sense of oneness that the spiritual masters talk about. It will most
likely feel like your sense of self has dissolved and that you are part
of everything. That your awareness and attention has expanded both
inward to include all of your self, yet also expanded outward to
include all of what is outside of yourself.
It
is this expanded consciousness that melts the veil between your inner
and outer world. It usually feels like the boundary of where you and
the world begins simply dissolves. However entering into this state
will start with expanding and raising your awareness in the present
moment.
