Gaia
- How To Tap Into Gaia's Wisdom
Gaia is a living organism. She
encompasses every living and non-living entity within the earth's
sphere.
The Gaia hypothesis was formulated by James
Lovelock in
the 1970's that the earth is a self-regulating organism that actively
produces conditions that are conducive to sustaining life.
For example, if Carbon Dioxide levels increase too much then the earth
will naturally warm. However this warming will also stimulate more
plant growth and algal blooms. This additional plant life then
sequesters more carbon out of the atmosphere, which in turn reduces the
temperature of the planet to levels conducive to life.

- the living being we call Earth |
It
is this self-regulating behaviour of our planet earth which has caused
many scientists to hypothesize that the earth is a living entity that
provides conditions that are conducive for life.
When
you tap into the wisdom of nature it becomes very clear that the earth
is a living organism that has an intention to restore balance.
For
example, after a bushfire the landscape turns black. However within a
few months there is a prolification of plant growth through new shoots
and growth from seeds that have been activated by the strong heat of
the bushfire. Nature restores the blackened forest to again provide
conditions that are conducive for life.

to tap into her wisdom |
Likewise
with cleared land. If you look at a paddock that has not been farmed
for a couple of years you will see young sapplings starting to grow
amongst the weeds that have loosened the soil. Within a couple more
years you will start to see the sapplings take over and the beginnings
of a new forest starting to develop. Again, nature is self-regulating
and restoring the balance in order to provide the conditions that are
conducive for life.
On
a larger scale, you can see that mother Earth is a living organism. For
example, if you took a time delay sequence of Gaia over thousands of
years then you would see her forests move. During the ice ages her
forests retreat away from the poles and concentrate around the equator.
However when the ice ages finish, you would again see her forests
spread out and grow once more further away from the equator. Similar to
how our skin moves when we move our body.
So
given that the earth is a living organism then like all living
organisms she naturally has an intelligence and wisdom about
her.
Indigenous
people across the planet knew that everything within mother earth was
connected and one with everything else. They honoured the sacredness of
the earth and would seek answers and guidance from her by tapping into
her wisdom.
However
with the shift of our modern civilization into cities and away from the
connection to Gaia through nature, we have mostly forgotten how to
listen to the wisdom contained within nature. We have largely forgotten
how to tap into the messages she has for us.
The
reason for this is that our attention and focus on a societal level is
being consumed by the capatalistic model within which we currently live
in. We have not been taught how to listen to Gaia's messages, however
the wisdom is still there just waiting for us to tap into again.
Largely,
that is what this website is about. It is about how to tap into the
wisdom contained within nature again. The wisdom has not gone anywhere,
it's just that largely we have forgotten how to listen to it.
For
example I once went on a heart walk in nature and had been thinking
about the journey Gaia is going through right now with mass levels of
deforestation, rising carbon dioxide levels and the resulting global
warming. So I set my intention to be about 'global warming'.
As
I listened to my heart I kept on getting guided to the charcoal on logs
and stumps that had been burnt by bushfires from long ago. Likewise
nature would guide me to the forest floor and within the leaf litter I
kept on finding small bits of charcoal from previous bushfires.
I
could not find the connection between this charcoal and 'global
warming' that Gaia through nature was wanting to give me, however I
wrote down 'charcoal' in my heart walk notepad. That was the obvious
message that nature was trying to point me to on my heart walk.
When
I got home I again looked through my heart walk notepad and saw that
'charcoal' was what nature was trying to tell me around 'global
warming'. So I Googled 'charcoal global warming' and the whole world of
carbon sequestration through bio-char opened up to me as a way to
mitigate the effects of global warming.
The
point here however is that when we again tap into the wisdom of nature
as our indigenous ancestors once did, then we can again start to hear
the messages and intelligence that Gaia is wanting to give us.
