Meditation
in nature is one of the most powerful ways to tap into your true
nature. This nature meditation also allows you to expand your senses to
a heightened awareness which allows the doorway to talk directly with
the creator.
When
in nature there is a simple 'sense meditation' you can use in order to
heighten your five senses in order to have the experience of being a
more alive human being and more in touch with spirit. Quite often in
modern life our senses are toned down due to the amount of stimuli
continually surrounding us.
The
first step to increase the connection to your five senses is to let go
of all tension within your body and mind. The way to do this is to
firstly scan through your body and notice wherever you have tension.
Then just like letting go of a rock in your hand, allow the tension in
your body to drop to the earth. The earth can then use this tension
where it needs to. I find letting go of the tension from your body
works best on the out breath...

After
you have dropped all of the tension in your body to the ground, you can
then scan through your mind and become aware of any tension in your
mind. Then when you are ready just let the tension in your mind drop to
mother earth.
Once
you are in a relaxed state, the next part of the meditation is to then
start heightening your five senses with the sense meditation technique.
The
first and most predominant sense that we use in our modern society is
the sense of sight. Quite often we view the world in a narrow
viewpoint. For example, we look at a computer screen, watch a TV, read
the newspaper and look at the road ahead of us. All the while using a
focused way of looking at the world.
However,
indigenous people often use far more of their sense of sight awareness
to pick up the subtle movements of animals and birds all around them.
The way to do this is to tap into your peripheral vision.
To
tap into your peripheral vision just put both hands out to your sides
as far as you can and wiggle your fingers. Move your hands back far
enough so you can just see your fingers wiggling. This is the extent of
your peripheral vision.
Whilst
doing this, it helps if you pick a point directly in front of you and
soften your gaze on that point. This allows you to be more focused on
the extent of your peripheral vision.

After
you have extended your peripheral vision to the left and right, next
place one hand up above your head and the other down below your front.
Likewise wiggle your fingers so you can sense the extent of your
peripheral vision both up and down. As you are in this state of
extended peripheral vision you will notice there is a circle of visual
awareness around you. Within this circle of awareness you will pick up
the movement of objects a lot easier.
This
is the first part of the sense meditation and studies have shown that
just being in this state of extended visual awareness for 2 minutes can
change your brainwave patterns from the problem-solving 'beta' state
into the more relaxed and slower 'alpha' state.
What
you'll also find during this sight meditation is that everything around
you appears to be more three-dimensional. For example, as you walk
around in this state you'll notice that the world around you,
particularly to your left and right will move left and right with each
step that you take.
