- How To Connect With The Wisdom Within The Rainforest
Rainforest
environments such as the amazon are diverse ecosystems that are full of
life. It is this diversity of life within a rainforest that contains a
lot of wisdom when you tap into it.
For thousands of years the rainforest people of
indigenous cultures would connect with this wisdom contained within the
rainforest to guide their lives. On a daily basis these indigenous
people would often go alone into the forest in order to talk with and
commune with the intelligence within the trees, animals, streams,
mountains and the life that surrounded them.

However, in
today's current culture we have almost forgotten how to tap into the
wisdom contained within Gaia's forests.
In
modern civilization we barely connect with nature at all. For example
we wake up in a bed surrounded by four walls. Then we turn on a tap to
have a shower from treated water. To jump on a bus or in a car to
travel to our office or workplace that is again surrounded by four
walls. Then to jump again on a bus or in our car at the end of the day
to sit in front of a TV screen again surrounded by four walls.

- indigenous people connect with it's wisdom |
Some
people call the current condition we find ourselves in 'nature defecit
disorder' due to all the conditions such as anxiety, depression,
attention defecit disorder and all the constant stress and tension
contained within our bodies.
However
personally I find that with the right training, time and space that it
only takes a couple of hours for people to again connect with nature.
The reason for this is because being in nature is our natural state.
Connecting with nature via the forests and rainforests is hard-wired
into our consciousness.
That
is why on a Heart Walk that most people can again start to communicate
with the wisdom contained within nature and again start to tap in to
her natural rhythms.
So
how do we again tap into the natural rhythms of nature?
The
first step is to start spending time alone in nature. This is like
spending time with a friend. The more time you spend with a friend then
the better you get to know them. Likewise with nature - the more time
you spend immersed within nature then the more you will get to know her
ways.
For
some people being alone in nature can be a fairly frightening
experience. This is especially true if they have not spent much time
alone by themselves in the wilderness. Our current society has largely
madeus afraid of the wilderness with stories such as being mauled by
bears, attacked by sharks and bitten by snakes and spiders.
However
you have way more risk of being injured in a car accident than any of
these things. In fact out of the thousands of hours of spending time
alone in the forests I have never been bitten by a spider or a snake
and have never had a life threatening experience within nature.
So
the first step to connect with the rainforests and natural areas on
planet earth is to start spending as much time as you can fully
immersed within nature. As you do this you will start to see that
nature has a natural rhythm. For example, the birds will sing loudly
just after dawn. I call this the 'dawn chorus'. Then in the middle of
the day the birds will usually become quiet and mellow. However at the
end of the day the birds again will become active as they start to find
their roosts for the night.
The
way to tap into this natural rhythm is to slow down whenever you are in
nature. For example I often see people approaching nature as though
they are on a 'mission'. They will literally force their way through
the wilderness, often as fast as they can. In Australia this is known
as 'bush bashing'.
However
if you instead go into nature slowly you will find that there is a way
to move through the bush that is a lot easier and often a lot faster.
As you move slowly through nature you will find that you will naturally
move through the bush in a way that you don't get tangled on vines and
will avoid most of the obstacles that come your way. The reason for
this is that when you move slowly through the bush your awareness will
naturally expand and that you start to become more attuned with what is
around you.
As
you slow down further you will also want to naturally connect with the
wisdom contained within the rainforests. The way to do this is to not
only slow down your movements within nature but to also slow down your
thoughts and what happens within your mind. Within nature there is
usually no real need to 'think' and after a couple of hours immersed
within nature you will naturally find that your thinking will not only
slow down but will sometimes stop completely.
Once
you have slowed both your movements and your mind you are then ready to
tap into the wisdom of nature. The way to do this is to spend time with
an element within nature that you feel drawn to. For example you could
be drawn to some moss or a tree or even a stream.
Then
just spend some time with this element within the forest. Get to know
it's little nuances such as what it smells like and what it looks like.
Spend some time discovering all the little details contained within the
element of nature. When you spend time being with this element you will
naturally start to feel more connected to it.
As
you deepen the connection with the element within nature then you can
start to ask it questions that you are wanting answers to. For example,
I find 'What?' questionsare good questions to ask - such as 'What do
you want to tell me?', 'What is the message here?' or perhaps 'What is
it you want me to know?'
Then
to connect into the wisdom
of the rainforest through this element it is just a matter of
taking
the time to listen to what this element has to say. If you would like
to learn how to deepen your connection further with the wisdom of
nature then I encourage you to get a copy of my latest book 'The Heart
Walk' where I go even deeper into connecting with nature.
