To Find Your True Nature In Nature
Relaxation
of both your body and mind is critical if you want to discover your
true nature in nature. Tension in your body blocks the link between
your sense of self and your true self.
In
our modern society there is a lot of tension caused by the nature of
the system in which we live. There is a lot of stress due to time
pressures, financial constraints as well as relationship issues. All
this tension blocks the underlying natural relaxation that is a part of
our true self.
Our
true self does not hold onto tension in either the body or the mind.
Instead there is a profound sense of relaxation and resulting feeling
of oneness with all things...

When
I first enter the wilderness during a nature immersion I usually do a
short relaxation exercise in order to let go of any residual tension
that I may be holding onto. What I do is scan through my body and just
notice any tension within my muscles. Then when I come across tension I
just let it go, usually on an out-breath.
This
letting go is just like letting go of a rock in my hand. When I let go
of a rock it drops to the ground. Likewise with tension in my body. I
just let go of the tension within my body and let it drop to the
ground. Then mother earth can use this 'tension' elsewhere, where it is
needed.
After
I have scanned through my body and let go of all tension I usually
notice that my body has entered into a profound sense of relaxation.
Once my body is relaxed I then scan through my mind and just let go of
any tension that is within my mind and allow it to fall to the earth.
This is how I let go of tension when out in nature.
When
I let go of tension like this I notice that the relaxed state allows me
to be more present to the present moment. I notice that my five senses
of sight, hearing, smell, taste and feeling naturally become more acute
when in this relaxed state of mind and body. It's like I live more in
the moment.
Whilst
in this relaxed state I hear more birds, see more animals, smell more
of the earth's smells, taste the different tastes on the wind
and feel the different sensations throughout my body. This
amplification of the five senses whilst relaxed also allows me to enter
into the spiritual dimension a lot more easily to feel the subtle pull
of spirit and the life force.
However, whenever I notice tension form
again within either my body or mind
I also notice that my sensory awareness also closes down. It's like
tension is the same as closing a tap on the awareness of the present
moment.
That
is why it is important to continually scan through your body and mind
and notice any amounts of tension and let them simply drop to the
earth. This relaxation technique can be used at any time throughout the
day to bring you back to your natural awareness.
